Yesterday was the much anticipated annual Pumpkin Quest and I do believe this one lived up to the anticipation and excitement that had been building through the week. We were up bright and early...goats to milk (and that was a story in and of itself), kids to dress and feed, shower to take and last minute laundry to be finished all by 6:45am. Grant and Parker had their annual Fall Camporee with scouts and had to be picked up by 8am in northern NH. I'm just thankful it was on the way to the first stop of the day.
Of course the van NEEDED gas before we could make much progress. Brad laughing with the kids while filling up.
The leaves aren't great this year. Pretty, but not spectacular. It probably has to do w/ the rain we've had. Lots of rain. They went from "ok" to simply gone as we moved north of Franconia Notch. It was as if we'd traveled a hundred miles north from just south of the Notch to just north of it.
The van reached 88,888 miles while we were heading north that morning. Brad had me take a picture of it!!!
We picked Grant and Parker up from their boy scout camp out and finally reached our first of many stops for the day....Polly's Pancake Parlor in Sugar Hill. It is the first and probably most looked forward to stop of the day. Everyone (but me) loves pancakes and I'm told they have some of the best (I am always the odd ball that orders an omelet; I can tell you they have a good one).
Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Carly eating breakfast with the boys
After breakfast it was time for the annual sibling photo on the horse outside the restaurant. I love this picture and really enjoy seeing how the kids grow every year.
After Polly's we headed to Harmon's Cheese Shop and picked up some great cheese and the boys were each allowed to pick out a small item that cost no more than $10. The little guys picked out stuffed animals and Parker and Grant picked out a 6 pack of specialty pops.
Then it was back in the van and south to Bath, NH to the oldest general store in the country. Grandma allows each of the kids to pick out 10 pieces of candy from the big candy containers and then we walk across the covered bridge and step foot in Vermont and enjoyed the wonderful weather.
Enjoying the front porch at the general store
Grant sitting on one of the beams in the bridge
Just enjoying the nice weather
The pumpkin patch is next. This is always my favorite stop of the day. I love watching the kids pick out their pumpkins and enjoying the animals. Samuel told me early in the day that he was picking out a tiny pumpkin and he was true to his word. Here he is showing off his pumpkin, he was very proud of it.
Every year I take a picture of the kids in front of the pumpkins. Like the horse at Polly's I look forward to taking this picture and seeing how they grow and change.
They had a great time picking out pumpkins
Grandma and Samuel enjoying some time together (he carried that pumpkin around the entire time)
Augustin guarding our pumpkins; I think he just wanted an excuse to sit on them!!!
A rare shot of Brad, he was busy helping the kids
After the pumpkins we headed into Vermont to King Arthur Flour for sticky buns. Veronica slept so I relaxed in the van and allowed her to get some much needed rest. Then it was off to the bookstore to pick out a book. We then took time to hang out at the park and enjoy the nice weather before heading to Lui Lui's for dinner. We had the warmest weather I can ever remember and a wonderful day!!! The kids are already counting down the days until next year.
