Thankfully Grant and Parker hid all the eggs outside the night before because as I had predicted, Samuel was the first one up. He was awake at 5:40am...no one else was up or ready to be up, so he went and played by himself for awhile. Augustin was the next one up and then finally at 7:30am we woke the other three up. I was going to let Veronica sleep as long as possible. Before getting dressed the kids were outside looking for eggs. They were bursting with excitement and couldn't wait; they put jackets on though.
Samuel found one
Matthias found one
Augustin looking cute. He loves this coat and wears it all the time. He looks like he's prepared for a blizzard in it (remember he would wear it in the summer to help me w/ the goats?)
Grant and Parker were on hand as the official "egg hiders" to help if someone had questions.
Matthias gets some help reaching an eggs, first from Grant and then Daddy
Running to find another egg
Veronica got up, but was in no mood to look for eggs
Success and now time to eat some candy
All 50 eggs were found and then it was time to move on to finding the hidden Easter baskets, this is always fun and the big kids have to look very hard for theirs.
Samuel found his in the Lazy Susan
Augustin's was hiding behind the bread making containers
Matthias found his on the top shelf of the linen closet without much trouble at all, I think we'll have to make his harder next year
Parker had to look for a long time for his. It was hidden in a cooler on the porch.
Grant was the last to find his basket and it took him quite awhile. The top shelf of the pantry behind some bottles; definitely not obvious unless really looked for
Veronica had ZERO interest her basket, she just really wanted to eat breakfast and play w/ plastic eggs. She went down for a nap shortly after this picture; her late night was catching up with her very quickly.
Finally time to enjoy the baskets and have a quick breakfast
Then it was time for what was probably the most anticipated activity of the morning....the Golden Egg Hunt done by Mamma and Papa, complete with scavenger hunt clues and golden eggs filled w/ candy. Samuel went first and had to figure out where to go based on his picture clues...dryer, trailer and finally the grill where the egg was hidden.
Augustin was next and he was a pro having remembered what he did last year and how it worked. He started on the front porch, then found his next clue with the bikes, then the red shed and finally his golden egg in the nesting boxes.
Matthias had to read his clues this year rather than looking at pictures. He did a great job and found his egg quickly.
Grant and Parker had to use the GPS on their phones to find their eggs this year. They were given coordinates and had to figure out where to find them. And since we only have a limited number of golden eggs and more children now than eggs, my Dad had to figure something else out. So they now have golden canning jars. He painted 2 pint size jars gold for them; Parker loved it. Here he is getting some help from Papa as he was starting out.
Grant and Brad have a discussion on how to approach the situation.
That ended our morning of fun at home. It was packed full of laughter, candy, excitement and smiles. Veronica slept through almost all of it and when it was time to head to Grandma and Grandpa's she and I stayed back for awhile and let her sleep, hoping a good nap would help her be happy in the afternoon. It worked wonders, she woke up happy and was in a great mood. It meant she missed the egg hunt and I missed all pictures because I had the camera at home with me. So no pictures of the egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa's this year....very disappointing.
In the end it was worth it because Veronica was happy.
She loves the sock monkey that was in her basket
Time for dinner and there are 3 little boys who are very happy
A little family fun....
Samuel looking for more candy
And just a lot of good times
Everyone was tired, full and happy when the day was over and headed to bed and went right to sleep. It was a very full 4 days that I'm sure will be remembered all year.
